According to Dr Sharib:
"Ad-Darr is the One Who gives trouble to whomsoever He likes*. He inflicts
loss, misery, and trouble upon anyone He likes."
To emulate the name we are advised to be aware that misfortune, trouble and
suffering are from Allah and that no one besides Allah is capable of giving any
troubles or imposing any suffering.
Appropriate recitation enables one to attain the nearness of Allah and secures
safety from calamities.

At every moment , O man of little means, He has conjoined with your grief and
gladness an ark (to save you) and a flood (to destroy you).

"Neither name ( Ad-Darr or Al-Nafi ) appears in the Qur'an. They belong to the

Contemplation of evil and good leads one to realise that both serve a higher
purpose and require each other. Doing good or evil by intention however leads
to consequences. The long term result (but often not the short term result) of
doing evil is an evil destiny and the long term result of doing good is a happy
and joyous homecoming.
