According to Dr Sharib:
"A'-Jami' is the One Who collects and gathers together different truths,
and is the One Who will gather people together on the Day of
Judgement. According to some Islamic scholars He is the One Who will
collect together the different limbs of creation on the Day of Resurrection
and Who will raise the dead from the grave."
To emulate the name we are advised to mould ourselves into an an
enviable combination of inner and outer traits, characteristics and
graces.
Appropriate recitation can enable us to remain united with our friends.

Some other references:
"Our Lord! Thou art He
That will gather mankind
Together against a Day about which
There is no doubt: for Allah
Never fails in His promise."
Al-Ghazali refers to Al-Jami' as the one who combines similair things,
dissimilar things, and opposites. This is shown in His gathering. men
together at the Day of Resurrection, His uniting heaven and earth, and
the seas, and animals etc. on the planet, and His uniting heat with cold,
and dry with wet in the physical constitution of animals.
With regard to men he says the one who unites steadfastness with
insight is known as the one who unites - since these two qualities are
difficult to unite.

The congregational prayers of the Muslims are also known as the Juma
prayers. Though the individual worshipers go about their separate
business taking part in their separate work, leisure, and worship during
the rest of the time, at the call of the Friday (Juma) prayers they return to
sacrifice their individuality in a collective, shared act of worship. This is a
potent and actual symbol of the gathering-in referred to by this name.
Scientists have a theory that the physical universe has expanded from a
single point, whatever the truth or otherwise of this in regard to the
physical universe, it makes a potent symbol if one considers that what
has thus been expanded can be gathered in again by the One Who
made it so.
