According to Dr Sharib:
"Malik ul-Mulk" is the One Who is a supreme Sovereign and Whose
powers, authority, decision, order, and command cannot be questioned
by anyone whosoever he or she may be."
To emulate the name we are advised to look to the one Master, the
supreme Sovereign, and to none other. We should obey Him, serve Him,
and implore Him.
Appropriate recitation makes the person rich and independent of people.

Say: "O Allah!
Lord of Power (and Rule),
Thou givest Power
To whom Thou pleasest,
And Thou strippest off Power
From whom Thou pleasest,
Thou enduest with honour
Whom Thou pleasest,
And Thou bringest low
Whom Thou pleasest:
In Thy hands is all good.
Verily, over all things
Thou hast power.
Al-Ghazali refers to Malik ul-Mulk as the one who carries out what he
wills in his kingdom. He points out that al-Mulk here means 'kingdom'
whilst al-Malik refers to one with perfect power. God is the King over all
existent things and they are all interconnected forming a singular
kingdom over which He rules. Al-Ghazali compares the whole world to
the human body, in which all the components work together to perform
the will of one manager. This represents the highest possible realization
of the good with all the components ranked and ordered and bound
together under one King. The kingdom of each man is his own body
which requires to be properly ruled.

The Sufis are sometimes referred to as 'kings in rags'. This implies they
have been enabled to rule themselves. In addition to this some are
designated as having spiritual sovereignty of particular areas or
countries. Khawaja Muinuddin Hasan Chishti is known as the Spiritual;
Emperor of of the Indian subcontinent. Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi is
known as the Sultan of Turkey. This God given authority means that what
they want to happen in their kingdom actually happens.
