According to Dr Sharib:
"Al-Matin is the One Who is so perfect, powerful and strong that no one
can intrude, obstruct, hinder, or prevent His work and action. Nobody can
ignore His command. His might and strength are spiritual, free from loss
or decay."
To emulate the name we are advised to abstain from committing sins
and to look to Allah for safety, security and protection.
Appropriate recitation on a boy or girl may make them free from sins
and other evils or mischief.

For Allah is He Who
Gives (all) sustenance, -
Lord of Power, -
Steadfast (for ever).
Al-Ghazali refers to this name along with Al-Qawi - the Strong. He says
firmness indicates intensity of strength.
(Al-Ghazali - The Ninety-nine Beautiful Names of God. Trans. Burrel/Daher: ITS: 1992.)
The established and mature Sufi is a man of firm resolve - when once he
has a clear understanding of what God requires from him, he is not
distracted by wandering thoughts, fleeting emotions, or superficial
opinions or the vicissitudes of passing events. He is steadfast like the
'rock of ages'. His faith, based on a true understanding, does not waver.
This is a blessing of God on him.
The men par excellence who demonstrated this quality of firm strength
are of course the prophets. The Holy Prophet Muhammed stood firm
against the whole world, he did not change or waver but the rest of the
world wavered and changed and was never the same again. This was
because the source of his firmness was God, The Firm.
Firmness is not the same as stubbornness which arises from
maintaining a false perception. Thus Prophet Moses was steadfast and
firm in seeking the freedom of his people since his strength came from
God. Pharaoh was stubborn in his vain attempt to deny the power of God
and to rely on his worldly power.
